Grace Presbyterian Church of Baltimore

 B.U.I.L.D.

Matthew 5:16  “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give Glory to your Father in Heaven.”

Baltimoreans United in Leadership Development began in 1977 as the response of churches in Baltimore to the pressures and concerns affecting congregations and families.  BUILD is a broad-based organization of religious institutions, schools, community organizations and worker institutions.  BUILD is citywide, non-partisan, interfaith, and multi-racial.

BUILD and Grace Presbyterian Church have been in partnership for many years.

BUILD is assisted and supported by many volunteers, and normally chaired by a member of Session from Grace Presbyterian Church by a member of Session from Grace Presbyterian Church.

BUILD and Grace Presbyterian Church continue to band together each year to support and promote the Child-First program developed by BUILD. (Located at Dr. Roland N. Patterson Sr. Academy)

BUILD’s goal for 2004 is to power the un-empowered.

As a result of working with Governor Glendening and other allies, BUILD has delivered over $80 million to th city to fund the following:

   School construction

   Child-First after school program

   Long term drug treatment

   Living wage

   Head Start programs

   Home ownership

Some of BUILD’s other projects for 2004 included:

Capital improvement for parks and playgrounds

Fellowship Housing: A program to provide housing and drug rehabilitation for city residents.

Land Acquisition: the plan is to acquire  blight properties in our  neighborhoods.

Pay Day Lending: This is to stop payday lenders from charging outrageous interest rates on small loans to workers against post-dated checks.

Worker Center: This center will consolidate the various activities we have organized over the last eight years with low wage workers.

“With God All Things Are Possible” (Matthew 9:26)
