Members
1.
Get well cards and special cards for the various holidays were sent from the Board and
by individual members to let the sick and shut-in know they were in our prayers
and thoughts. 2. Tokens of love were sent to families of bereaved
members. 3.
The
deacons visited the sick and shut-in, however, on the 5th Sunday of
the month the deacons, along with the minister or elders visited the sick and
shut-in together. The Board
delivered a get-well basket or flowers to the sick and shut-in. 4.
The Board
of Deacons purchased the Advent oil-filled candles for the church. 5.
Rev.
Tuggle, Memorial Presbyterian Church was our guest speaker during Deacon’s
Sunday, February 16, 2003. 6.
The
Deacons prepared bags of food from the food pantry for those in need.
The Board gave new toys to the McKim Center for their annual Christmas
party. We selected two families for
Easter and provided food and Easter baskets for the children. 7.
The Board
participated in the “Blanket Sunday” project. 8.
Our
mission for 2003 is to replace the church marquee with a lighted one displaying
the message on both sides and position it so it can be seen when you pass the
church. We wanted to do this in
memory of Mr. John Cumbo. The
marquee has been priced for approximately $7,000.00.
From the two fundraisers we have $3,500.00 toward the marquee.
We have been blessed to have received an additional $1,000.00 donation
toward the marquee. A check for
$500.00 from the John T. Colbert Chapter of the Presbyterian Men. Thanks again for your generous donations and may God continue
to bless you. 9.
On
Sunday, October 13, 2003, the Board of Deacons sponsored a trip to Roosevelt,
New York, Long Island, at Memorial Presbyterian Church where our Minister was
the guest speaker for their Deacons’ Sunday.
Twenty-three members attended. All
experienced a spiritual awakening. PLANS
